Japanese Website Localization
A Japanese website should not simply repeat your English website in Japanese.
The customer is different. The alternatives are different. The questions may be different. The proof needed to create trust may be different.
Localization means deciding what should stay, what should change and what needs to be added.
Translation asks
“How do we say this in Japanese?”
Localization asks
“Is this the right thing to say to this Japanese customer in the first place?”
Both matter.
They are not the same job.
A section may need rewriting rather than direct translation because the underlying customer question is different.
Japanese customers do not necessarily search using direct translations of English keywords.
Where organic search matters, keyword research and page roles should be considered before the Japanese copy is finalised.
The goal is not to insert Japanese keywords into translated copy.
It is to create the right page for the search intent and the business objective.
